WOW. I’m 47/52 weeks into my first YOP. I was looking at my YOP list this morning- I don’t think I’m going to cross 15 additional items off my list in the next 5 weeks (I wanted to cross 20 items off my almost 40 item list). I know the goals are arbitrary. I know that no one is going to hold me to these line items. But I love crossing out items on a list. Next year’s list will be a lot like this year’s list. WIPS, Stash, Sewing, Design Work, Design RELEASES, Spinning. NO: I never learn. Some of my design ideas will just go into the idea pipeline for the future (when inspiration strikes me with a more complete vision).
For the last week (and 2 days) my surprise closet re-do project has been my primary focus. I’ve dusted, vacuumed, organized, cleaned. I’m within 99% of getting the closet back in order, and about 80% done with all the new bedroom projects I’ve given myself. A bunch of the stuff I ordered got shipped super fast! I hope next week I’ll want to show off. It’s been a LOT of work! I still need to wash the outside of the bedroom windows they are surprisingly filthy. My new rugs might be my favorite acquisition.

I’m finishing up row 40 of section 5 (of 40 rows). Section 6 will be another garter stripe section before the final lace border. Which I still haven’t decided on. Mostly because I want to see how much yarn I have left before I commit to a lace idea- then run out of yarn! I’m GUESSING it will be a shorter lace border as opposed to a super long one. I do think it will be the least repetitive lace section as well. The first two laces are pretty easy, the third will be a bit more complex (I think). I’m excited to get it off the needles and blocked! The yarn is a superwash, so I know its going to open up and grow like crazy. I’m looking forward to a big shawl.

This week I also need to order some Encore Chunky in Cream to finish out my Hobbit Door/Bag End throw. I have zero balls, and am going to order 3… although now that I think about it, I should get 4 to be on the safe side. I’m still going over in my mind HOW to square the circle AND make the bottom of the door (which is fewer rows than the side/arch all meet up nicely. Spoiler: DC, HDC, SC, Slip Stitches. I guess this is what I get for being “EXTRA”. Then comes the finishing with some flowers along the base on either side of the door- like Bilbo’s garden. I had not considered turning this into a pattern, it was just a fun commission/challenge from a friend… But the more I work it, the more I love it, and the more I think it will be released into the wild. *Sigh*

I am anxious to see the hobbit item. It sounds like so much fun. I bet your closet is going to be wonderful. Anxious to see that too.

This week I should be able to lay out the hobbit blanket and get some better pictures!

Congrats on closet cleaning. I really need to clean out our various storage areas. Hubby just isn’t willing to throw out things. Love the colors of your Until We Win shawl.

Hobbits! Well I’m looking forward to seeing this project finished. Sounds great that you have managed to get your closet sorted after the big crash.

Hobbits!! I love hobbits, so this project has been a real pleasure!
My closet hasn’t been this organized since before my 2nd child!

Thanks! My spouse LOVES to get rid of things. I try not to be too precious about things that have no emotional attachment (like cords to equipment we don’t own anymore), but its easy to just plop it in a box and forget about it.
The yellowy-green sections look practically fluorescent in low light!

Haha, I keep looking at my filthy windows and thinking I should get around to them, but I’m getting new ones soon and it seems such a waste. I’m such a domestic sloth. I love your Until We Win shawl, I can’t wait to see it finished.

When I’m inspired to clean, I do a great job. I wish inspiration to clean hit more often. Interesting idea that I’ve put into practice: I brought a magic eraser into my shower for those moments that I see something “gross” and immediately can clean it up (without spraying chemicals while I’m naked) or forgetting to do it “later”.
I hope I can find some time to buckle down on the last couple sections of the shawl this week!
