And so it goes.

As with all things that seem to fall by the wayside, I’ve been thinking about what to say. Work has supplanted free time. I have been working on large boring (for progress) projects mainly. I am knitting, crocheting, and creating without documenting. I am designing (ALWAYS), but without much INTENT behind my design.

I somewhat forgot that January was my “take pictures of all the knitwear you wear this month and post it to Instagram” tradition. I neglected to start my month of bad haikus in February.

I have been trying to live in the moment, put down my phone (unless I’m listening to an audio book), and exist. I feel trampled by America’s political situation. The attempt to erase Trans People from the narrative is painful in ways that I have not processed into adequate words.

But still, I persist.

This school year, I took up the Robotics advisor mantle. I love it. I love the students. I love the process. I love watching how my team is growing as engineers, as leaders, and as people. It requires a good deal of my time afterschool. And thinking about robotics in general. I’m concerned about HOW we are going to get to our competitions, since we can’t use our grant funds for transportation. I’m concerned we won’t have grant funds next year to keep the program robust.

I’ve made a bunch of stitch markers with no outlet. I want to put them on Etsy, eventually. The family did a whirlwind Orlando theme park trip in January around my Birthday. It was : Drive Saturday and Sunday morning, Legoland on Sunday afternoon with my Mom, Disney Monday (Animal Kingdom), Tuesday (Magic Kingdom), and Wednesday (Hollywood Studios), Universal on Thursday and Friday. We drove back home Saturday and Sunday. Back to work for me on Monday. It was unseasonably cold (HIGHS in the lower 40s), and it rained 2/3 or the time there. At least we all packed rain coats!

  1. How wonderful of you to lead the Robotics club!! Definitely encourage the kids to pursue engineering!! Hope the finances work themselves out. Wouldn’t you know. Yes, January was the coldest anyone I knew could remember for Florida. I definitely didn’t pack enough warm clothes for such cold weather. Should have packed more sweaters!! You must have been here during that rainy week. I felt like I was back in Ohio with the grey skies all day every day.

    • It WAS that cold rainy week! It EXTRA cold at home- so our Vacation was like a “warm” winter week at home. The parks were WAY LESS crowded than usual, with relatively short wait times.
Ironically, when we were there 6 years ago, it was also a cold rainy week. At least this time I made everyone pack a light coat so we didn’t freeze. And I packed a very light cowl and hat. I wished I packed extra warmer ones!!

    • They are delightful to write.
I’ve been doing a relaxing, meditative yoga on Monday nights. I think it’ll help get be back into the right headspace to write haikus again. Even bad art needs creativity.
