YOP: Y13-W2

Yup.

Welcome back to YOP, week 2 post. I made a little progress on my sweater, and nothing else. I have been working on other things (mundane and creative) and haven’t devoted a tremendous amount of time to my sweater. I DID have the sweater with me when we had our Girl Scout sleepover at the Baltimore Aquarium on Friday night. I only took a few pictures when we were at the dolphin tank the first two are from Friday early evening. The last is from Saturday morning during the dolphin play time. It was a cool experience. I worked on the sweater more at the aquarium and in the car than I did all week!

I took a couple poor quality photos last night for progress on the sweater. I’m mid-way through ball 3 of 6. I’m going to do the sleeves after I work through my current ball. The sleeve yardages will determine the body length, and I’ll have time to decide if I want to make it a split hem or not. I know I have enough yarn, but I want to make the best use of as much yarn as possible.

  1. I have started doing sleeves on sweaters when I am about halfway through a project. I dislike being on sleeve island. It is also nice as a break from doing so many stitches on a project. The sleepover was fun but exhausting I am sure.

    • Yeah, I think since there are two sleeves, it seems to go on FOREVER.
The sleepover was fun! I think it was a great experience, I’m so glad we did this for our troop (even my son go was able to go). I would MUCH rather sleep in a tent however.

    • “Neutrals” are a big gap in my knitting wardrobe! This should remedy it!
This is our “big reward” from cookie sales this year! Being an hour from DC and Baltimore is convenient. I was SO tired, I am a REALLY light sleeper and the sleeping space was just too bright for me. It would have also been too loud if one of the other moms didn’t give me some ear plugs!

  2. What a fun trip for the girls. That is an awesome aquarium. We went there years ago and loved it. I agree that sleeves need to be done before the length. Or, at least that is the way I do mine.

    • I didn’t even know a sleepover at the aquarium was an option until one of the other leaders mentioned it!
I also like doing the sleeves early, because the body length can get UNWEILDY!

  3. Another vote here for sleeves before finishing the body for all the reasons people have said. I like to do them first to get them the same length and then make the most of the yarn I have left over.

  4. That sounds like a fun trip! I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing my sleeves first on my current sweater. I think I. Want to make it a little longer than the pattern and I want to make sure I have enough yarn.
